The long-awaited renewal of Gottsu's classic "Sepia Tone"!
The "Sepia Tone" is Gottsu's original mouthpiece.  Featuring a small chamber and slender body, it is the perfect student mouthpiece yet is beloved even by professionals.  Originally made from resin, the Sepia Tone was discontinued in March 2023; however, in response to the many requests for its return, we have renewed the model and re-released it in 2025.

What's changed?

For its renewal, we have changed the material of the Sepia Tone to hard rubber (ebonite).  This material is significantly more durable and produces a deeper and warmer tone.  Furthermore, we have added rails (grooves parallel to the table) that allow the Gottsu sliding ligature to be used with the mouthpiece.  The Sepia Tone naturally has a very low blowing resistance and beautiful tone, but the sliding ligature combines with the mouthpiece to provide an even lower blowing resistance and incredibly quick responsiveness.

Gottsu

“What is the appeal of the Sepia Tone?  It is a mouthpiece that can be enjoyed by both first-time players and professionals. The concept is vanilla ice cream.  Strong-flavored ice cream may be tasty at first, but eventually you will tire of the flavor.  Vanilla is a flavor that can be enhanced with other ingredients, allowing you to continue to enjoy it in many new flavors. The same goes for the Sepia Tone.  It can be adapted to any playing style, and the more you play it, the more you will love it.  It is a mouthpiece that allows you to truly enjoy music.”
